Your guest list

Diners can be asked, when they book, whether they would like to hear from you. It is off until you switch it on, and nothing is collected until you do.

Switching it on

Open the menu (the cog) and choose Marketing.

  1. Tick Ask diners when they book.
  2. Choose how the box behaves:
    • Unticked — the diner ticks it if they want to hear from you. The safest choice and the default.
    • Ticked — the diner unticks it if they do not. UK law allows this for your own similar offers to your own customers, on one condition: every message you send must have an unsubscribe link.
  3. Save.

The wording the diner sees is fixed and versioned. It says who they are agreeing to hear from — your restaurant alone — and it is never shared with another venue.

What you get

Your list: everyone who said yes, with when they agreed. Export gives you a spreadsheet — email, name and date — that opens in Excel or Numbers and can be uploaded to Mailchimp or whatever you send with.

Once you have exported it, that copy is yours to look after. If someone unsubscribes from a newsletter, they need to come off your exported list too; we cannot reach it.

The charts

Bookings taken, by week and Joined your list, by week — so you can see whether asking is worth it.

Two rules we keep for you

  • A diner who was never asked — a phone booking, a booking before you switched it on — is recorded as not asked, never as no. Nobody is unsubscribed by accident.
  • A diner who says yes and later says no stays on record as "agreed, then withdrew", so if anyone asks you can show what you held and when.

Still stuck? hello@thezi.app reaches a person, usually the same day.
